Danner Boots Care |
Take care of your boots and your boots will take care of you. Danner boots don't need much, but if you want to get the most out of them, here's what you do:
- Clean your Danner Boots regularly. Dust and dirt are bad for your boots. It infiltrates the seams and causes them to wear. It introduces micro-organisms that decay the leather. It dries out the leather and takes away tanning agents that keep it from cracking. And it clogs the minute pores in the leather that allow moisture vapor to escape, reducing the breathability of the GORE-TEX® membrane.
Fortunately, cleaning your boots is easy. Use a soft bristle brush or a rag and scrub them under warm water. If they're really dirty, try a bottle of Danner Boot Care System Cleaning Gel. Do this whenever they look like they need it, and you'll get a lot more life out of them. Don't dry them with heat, or you will damage the leather and outsole.
- Waterproof your Danner Boots. Even if your boots have GORE-TEX ®, which is 100% waterproof, it's still a good idea to periodically waterproof the leather. This will help keep it from absorbing too much water and becoming heavy and weakened. The same is true for boots that use a fabric panel in the upper.
There are many waterproofing products on the market, but Danner recommends water-based formulas because they perform best and do not harm leather or fabrics. Petroleum or animal based products, although widely used, are not recommended as they can over-soften the leather and cause damage. Danner offers three different waterproofing products in their Boot Care System line.
- Condition your Danner Boots. Conditioning prevents leather from drying out, and helps maintain the tanning agents that keep it supple. Ideal for breaking in a new pair of boots, conditioning products should also be applied periodically to revive leather and breathe new life into a well-used pair. Danner's recommends water-based conditioners over animal-based or petroleum conditioners for prolonging the life of your boots.
- Keep your Danner Boots away from heat! Outsole materials and glue are very sensitive to heat, so don't use heat to dry your boots or when applying boot care products. If your boots become wet inside, stuff dry newspaper in them overnight to absorb moisture, then let them sit until dry. Never put them next to a fire or heat source of any kind.

Danner Boots Construction Techniques |
There are a variety of boot construction techniques, but they all have the same purpose: to join together the upper, midsole components and outsole. We use four different construction methods in our boots, each with unique performance qualities and attributes:
Terra Force: The Difference Between A Boot And A Sneaker.
It used to be that lightweight, comfortable footwear had all of the support and durability of your old gym shoes. (In other words, not much.) And if you wanted support, you'd have to add heavyweight materials to get it.
Terra Force T technology from Danner has changed all that by providing exceptional support and stability with amazingly light weight. The four components in the exclusive Terra Force T system combine to form an extremely rigid, stable platform that's also comfortable and supportive . It's the perfect balance of boot strength and sneaker weight. Take the TERRA FORCE T Torque Test and see!
Terra Force T is based on a unique combination of internal and external nylon shanks, a super-soft polyurethane midsole and a supportive, full-length midsole plate. - The upper is stitched through the insole plate in the heel and forefoot areas to provide the added stability of a slightly wider platform.
- The internal shank works in concert with the insole plate to create a firm foundation to protect your arch from overwork and fatigue.
- The polyurethane midsole is a lightweight cushion for every step.
- The visible external nylon shank provides exceptional lateral/medial stability.
- Three different Terra Force T outsoles have been engineered for maximum traction in a variety of conditions.

When we set out to build an outdoor cross trainer worthy of the Danner name we developed the Radical, a lighter platform with the stability of a much heavier boot. Turns out the "Cross Trainer on Steroids" is too good for just one category. It has evolved into Terra Force T and is now available in hiking, hunting, and uniform styles.
STITCHDOWN:
If you're looking for the most stable, rugged and durable boots around, then you want Danner stitchdown boots. Why? Because Danner stitchdown boots are the standard to which all other stitchdown boots are compared. We've been making them this way for over 70 years, and our customers will tell you that they are the best.
Stitchdown construction, as its name implies, means that the boot upper is actually stitched to the insole with heavy thread, resulting in an extremely secure, durable attachment. More importantly, because the boot upper is flared out and then stitched to the insole board, your foot rests on a wider, and thus more stable, platform. The upper/insole unit is then cemented to the outsole, enabling the boots to be easily re-soled, adding years of life to them.
- First, the upper is stitched together, shaped to conform to the last, then flared out.
- Then the upper and insole components are stitched together with heavy, interlocking thread, creating an extremely secure attachment.
- The shank is sandwiched between the upper/insole unit and midsole, all of which are glued together under extreme pressure.
- Finally, the outsole is cemented to the midsole/upper unit.

CEMENT:
Although Danner is known for its traditional stitchdown boots, another important product offering for our customers is our cement construction styles. These styles offer one key advantage over stitchdown boots: lighter weight. In addition, some customers prefer the slightly narrower profile, that is a characteristic of cement construction boots.
In this construction, the upper is wrapped under the bottom of the last, and then cemented to the combined midsole/outsole unit. This technique is used throughout Danner's product line because of its versatility and performance.
HANDSEWN:
Made for those who prefer the traditional look of a moccasin-style boot, Danner offers several styles of handsewn boots. These boots offer classic styling as well as exceptional comfort due to their unique construction method.
With the handsewn technique, the upper completely surrounds the bottom of the foot, like a moccasin. The upper is then stitched to the midsole and then the upper/midsole is cemented to the outsole. Because leather inherently will conform to the shape of your foot, it offers the ultimate in comfort.
